Stop Legislation Against Certain Dog Breeds
Target: U.S. State
Representatives Sponsored by:
American Humane Association
Many states, counties and municipal
governments are turning to legislation targeting specific breeds as
an answer to dog attacks. While supporters of this type of provision
- commonly called breed-specific legislation - argue the only way to
be safe from dog bites is to eradicate "dangerous breeds" from the
community, there is little to no evidence that breed-specific
legislation reduces dog bites and dog attacks. In 2008,
cities in over half of the states considered some form of
breed-specific legislation. In Omaha, NE pit bulls are required to
have a $100,000 liability insurance policy. And some cities like
Denver and Sioux City have banned pit bulls altogether.
Sadly, a bill recently failed in Illinois that would prevent
insurance companies from unfairly discriminating against consumers
based on the breed of dog at their residence. And now, several
cities across the country are considering some form of
breed-specific legislation, including Mississippi, Massachusetts,
Ohio and Washington. Breed-specific legislation does not
work and we know it. Sign this petition to show your
dedication to stopping breed-specific legislation from being
implemented across the country. The more signatures we have, the

says, "We the people of the United States hereby petition Congress
to cause to have drafted, and to enact a Bill for federal
legislation, that when enacted will protect ownership property
rights, and legal use rights in domestic animals, and ensure that no
city, county, or State authority shall prohibit, or restrict the
peoples ownership rights, or legal use rights in domestic animals by
specific breed, or by species. Animals are humankinds most ancient,
and traditional property. The animal industry is the cornerstone of
the economy of the United States, and must be preserved. It is not
the intent of the petitioners to restrict any local authority in
addressing the zoning for, or of the keeping of
animals."
Wouldn't that be a dream come
true instead of having to fight city by
city.

Sgt. Gwen Beberg, a U.S. soldier in Iraq,
rescued "Ratchet" from the Iraqi streets. When Beberg prepared to
return to the U.S., he was then confiscated. A petition with over

My own rescued American Pit Bull Terrier was used as a
bait dog by her prior owners. Within 4 months of living and training
with me, she aced both her AKC Canine Good Citizen test and the
rigorous Therapy Dog test. As a certified Therapy Dog, she visits
60+ advanced Alzheimer's patients at a hospice facility weekly. You
can see video of her visits here: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/354737. Daisy Mae
is yet another great illustration of how the same dog can act under
different HUMAN ownership. One of Michael Vick's dogs, (Leo)
is also a Certified Therapy Dog who works with cancer patients
now! Judge the right end of the leash - the human side!

BSL or banning of a specific breed is DISCRIMINATION,
arbitrary and capricious. It is the same as banning blacks,
Chicanos, Orientals, or American Indians. Posted by

BSL is the equivalent of RACIAL PROFILING!! It's as
wrong as wrong can be!! To determine whether a dog lives or
dies based on perceived looks and not on individual personality is
discrimination at it's worst!!! Please propel this issue out
of existence, replaced with a Dangerous or Vicious Dog law that
covers each individual dog's character but not by breed!!!

BSL is discrimination at its worst. Entire breeds are
assumed to be guilty of bad behavior, despite evidence to the
contrary. Only responsible people and their dogs will be
punished by this sort of legislation. Those who use their dogs
as weapons or for nefarious purposes will continue to do so and
ignore BSL. Punish the guilty through going after
irresponsible owners. Don't punish the innocent. Posted by Chris Morrison

Breed discriminatory laws are not the answer to public safety
issues, in fact they infringe on a person's constitutional due
process rights. In the Illinois Senate, Senator Obama voted
for our law that prohibits breed disciminatory laws in the land of
Lincoln. We need such laws to protect pet guardians in all 50
states. Posted by ledy vankavage

There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. If Michael Vicks' dogs
could be saved so can the others. Stop discriminating against an
animal, and start holding PEOPLE responsible for their actions -- if
you get a dog that needs a stronger willed owner, then it's your
responsibility to make sure you give the level of guidance
needed. If you are too meek to demand your strong willed
dog behave in a reasonable manner, get a dog that is known for it's
meek nature instead! Posted by C Fox on

Dear Mr. President...
We Americans can endure a lot. Our
friends and loved ones died in the tragedy of September 11th, and we
moved on. We are in times of economic cisis, yet we will survive. We
have had our brothers and daughters, fathers and cousins in the
middle east for some years now... and they will come
home.
The Americans who waiver in their survival are the four
legged ones. We humans chose to bring them into our homes some 5,000
years ago and make them live by our rules... yet those rules are
sometimes unfair, unjust, and illogical.
Mr. Presidant,
seeing how we elected you... YOU work for US.
We demand
a level playing field for our four legged companions, loved ones,
partners, therapists, and decorated heros.
We demand you stop
being a politician and start being a leader.
Lead America
in the New Year with zero tolerance Anti-Breed Specific Laws
and Legislation. We vow... we will
follow.
Sincerely,
The United States of
America

McCarthyism went out of style in the early 1950's, The Salem
witch hunts crumbled in the early 1700's... how the H*LL did narrow
minded thinking come back into style? BSL Isnt about Pit Bulls. BSL
is about placing blame... and who better a target than a social
group who has no constitutional rights or a voice of
defense.
Breed Specific Legislation = BULL SHIT
LOGIC.

The Breed Specific Ban Enacted In Denver Has Not Made Any One
Safer From Dog Bites Just As Many Citizens Of Denver Have Been
Bitten After The Unconstitutional & Discriminating Law Was
Passed As Did Before. How Can Some One With Any Sense Think That By
Rounding Up Every Dog That Looks A Certain Way, Regardless Of The
Individual Dogs Temperament Can Be Justified. Many Of The
Targeted Look Alike Dogs That Have Been Killed In Denver & Other
Cities Were Perfectly Behaved Dogs Which Belonged To Some Family
That now Must Suffer The Meaningless Slaughter Of Their Pets simply
because it looked a certain way, This Doesn't Add Up. Any Way You
Look At It, It's Wrong, What's next? If We As A Country Apply This
Generalization Based On How Some One Looks Rather Than By
Their Character Were Would We BE?

Our Pit Bull and our Boxer were taken out of our locked truck by
DPD and Animal Control while visiting friends in Denver. We were
forced to spend the night and attempt to retrieve our dogs the
following day. We were told that: 1- If we could not prove that we
did not reside in Denver, our dogs would be killed. 2- if we ever
returned to Denver with these dogs, they would be killed. 3- we
could not even pass thru Denver without stopping without a permit to
transport our dogs. If we got caught, the dogs would be
killed. The Animal Control officer did not have an answer as to
why the Boxer was taken along with the PBT, nor did he care. We paid
a hefty fine and both dogs got Kennel Cough. The Boxer began to have
seizures, and we are sure the dogs were Maced. he died a few months
later after a seizure. To me, the actions on the Denver officials
constitute robbery, kidnapping, extortion and destruction of
property. These Nazi tactics are common, ignoring both Human and
animal rights. Ban BSL and the Nazi tactics of those who support
and enforce it!

Please vote for this if you haven't. All the dogs being targeted
by this law needs you to help them. This law does nothing to
help protect the people living in the cities. It has been proven
that peole that make these dogs vicious only switch to
another breed. Please vote for this.

As a PROFESSIONAL K9 Groomer who has groomed MANY different types
of dogs - I agree that BSL is retarded. I have groomed MANY Pit
Bulls and the only attack that I got was an attack of KISSES. I've
had small lap dogs bite me and I wouldn't even want BSL on them. Who
gives anyone the right to say what one person can have as a loving
pet? I thought that the U.S. was a free Democratic Country? Free to
make choices? Hmmmm.
